large-scale 3D food printer customizes shape, texture and size of fish and meat alternatives

Revo foods’ 3D printer for mass production of plant-based meals

Austrian food-tech startup Revo Foods presents the Food Fabricator X2, dubbed the world’s first industrial-scale method for the production of 3D food printing, capable of changing the shape, structure, and texture of plant-based fish, meat, and other meal alternatives. The technology, in the form of a 3D food printer, can also churn out whole-cut meat substitutes that feel, look, and taste like their original counterparts.

Revo Foods produced a video to showcase its new technology where the Food Fabricator X2 is being used in a facility to produce multiple plant-based salmon at once, enabling the mass production of the meat alternatives using an industrial-scale 3D food printing method and machine that allows for customization.

Fabricator X2 customizes shape and texture of 3D-printed food

Revo Foods’ Fabricator X2 is considered the first process equipment developed to allow 3D food printing at a mass-production scale. It features a multi-nozzle system that integrates numerous print heads within a single production machinery, which helps speed up the production and number of products made. The 3D food printer also comes with high-precision extrusion systems, which are advanced machines designed to carefully and accurately shape materials, often in the form of a heated and viscous mass, that Revo Foods themselves developed to allow continuous production in large quantities.

The fitting of the 3D food printer parts may be handy at the moment since Revo Foods devises a modular plug-and-play design for its Food Fabricator X2. It includes multiple production machinery within a single conveyor belt system, as seen in the video, so that scaling up the production capacity of plant-based fish and meat might not be too limited. The startup’s new method also prides itself on having the capabilities to innovate plant-based fish and meat since the 3D food printer can also form and shape the ingredients’ size and structure for the final product. If the consumer dreams of a star-shaped or spiral-looking plant-based fish or meat, Revo Foods’ 3D food printer and technology may manifest these desired shapes with ease.

Modular, plug-and-play design for 3D food printer

It seems that Revo Food’s 3D food printing technology, which is now up for its first public investment opportunity for interested shareholders, is adaptable since it can also be installed in other 3D food printers, hence the creation of a modular, plug-and-play design. Aside from its own Revo Food Fabricator X2, the startup may be able to share its 3D food printing process to help other facilities produce plant-based fish and meat for their consumers, continuing Revo Food’s mission to take the printing process of food to an industrial scale. This means that mass production and mass customization come hand-in-hand, and the flexible control of product parameters such as sizes, shapes, materials, or texture, without the need for hardware adjustments during the process, is feasible.
