in london, samsung has unveiled the ‘galaxy s iii‘, the third generation of the device, featuring a larger, 4.8-inch HD super AMOLED display and face and voice recognition technology with android 4.0 (‘ice cream sandwich’).
measuring 5.4 inches tall by 2.8 inches wide and 0.3 inches in depth(136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm), the phone is about a half inch (12.7mm) taller than its predecessor and very slightly wider, although also narrower, weighing 4.7 ounces (133 grams).

new technology in the ‘galaxy s iii’ includes ‘S beam’ (an expansion upon ‘android beam’), which permits the sharing of media files by simply touching two ‘galaxy s iii’ phones together, even without wifi or cell signal.
the device features built-in face detection, recognizing the way a person is using the phone and optimizing conditions accordingly. for example, the front camera identifies a user’s eyes while (s)he is reading or browsing the web and maintains a bright display rather than dimming to conserve battery over time.
‘S voice’ is a natural language user interface for the control of music, sound, text messaging and e-mails, calendar appointments, and camera and photo capture. lastly, a motion sensing system recognizes certain gestures: if a user is messaging a friend and decides instead to call, he need only lift the phone to his ear and ‘direct call’ will complete the dial.

‘allshare play’ facilitates the transfer of media to computer or television displays, and ‘group cast’ lets multiple users on the same wi-fi network share a screen, making comments and drawings simultaneously on their devices with realtime updating.
like the ‘s ii’, the new ‘galaxy’ features an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash, capable of recording HD video at 30fps, and a 1.9-megapixel front camera. its sensors include an accelerometer, RGB light, digital compass, proximity and gyro sensors, and barometer.

the ‘galaxy s iii’ is expected in late may in europe, with release dates for other parts of the world yet to be announced. the phone is designed in ‘pebble blue’ and ‘marble white’.
