the wait is over—samsung has finally taken the wraps off its long-awaited galaxy S8 at the ‘unpacked’ press conference in new york. the model the  features an infinity display flowing seamlessly around the phone’s curved body, ergonomically designed to fit in your palm. the smartphone has no physical buttons, with the bending display taking up 80 percent of the phone’s front screen. the device has been unveiled in five colors — orchid grey, midnight black and arctic silver, as were previously leaked — alongside an all new maple gold and blue coral.

the screen, made from 5.8 inches of glass is bent seamlessly around the edges of the phone to deliver optimal display without increasing the phone’s size. the home, recent and back keys are now all integrated into the touch screen display. the look and feel of the phone’s software keeps the same aesthetic as it’s hardware-using seamless curves to guarantee a smooth UX. the model is even water and dust resistant, and can survive half an hour submersed in water.

perhaps the most interesting feature from the samsung galaxy S8 is ‘bixby’, the phone’s new AI assistant that is context aware—meaning it can read the phone’s display as well as listen to your voice. bixby can also recognize images and control smart home devices.

the phone boasts a 12MP rear camera and the 8MP front camera, and includes facial recognition technology. the galaxy S8 can be charged completely wirelessly, via a docking station. the phone will be available starting april 21, 2017.
