shape & shadow animates origami sculptures into hypnotizing music video

hayley morris of shape & shadow has created a mesmerizing music video for austin based band explosions in the sky using her trademark stop-motion animation style, working with paper shapes and sculptures. to create hypnotizing patterns along side the single ‘the ecstatics,’ morris uses delicate cut-outs made of paper, moving each creation by hand. the lacy shapes and origami sculptures are then brought to life with the projected light and marine colors. morris’ video uses a combination of paper, layers of tracing paper and translucent materials, and hand blown glass. following the drop of explosions in the sky’s seventh album ‘the wilderness,’ the mezmerising animations aim to represent the ‘the wilderness of the mind.’ morris’ animation studio shape & shadow has previously used similar techniques to produce videos and commercials for burts bees, kate spade, and samsung.
