as early as the 1950’s, ovshinsky was researching and proposing the implementation of hydrogen-based fuel cells as an alternative to internal combustion engines. his creation of Ni-MH, helped power the technologies behind hybrid automobile engines and most consumer electronic items such as laptops and cellphones. in the 90’s his company provided the batteries for general motors’ first ‘EV1’ electric car, which now has paved the way for clean transportation systems. in his latest years, he had devoted himself to the development of photovoltaic panels, which could convert sunlight to electricity.
