as a child of the ’90s ourselves it’s always a joy when something from the decade is relaunched back into popular conscience, but just like furbies, bucket hats and nsync, this toy could split opinion. remember tamagotchis, the egg-shaped digital pets that usually only lasted a couple of days worth of pooing and smelling before dying of neglect? they’re back with a mobile game from bandai namco called my tamagotchi forever…an optimistic title to say the least.

my tamagotchi forever (available on both Android and iOS) is an updated version of the original concept in terms of graphics but you still need to tend to its every need as it evolves. in addition to the expected cleaning of poo you can dress your tamagotchi up in an array of fashions, explore ‘tamatown’ and play minigames. there’s even an AR mode so you can take selfies with them. it’s come a long way since the three-button original (well, 4 if you include the tiny reset button which we hope is a surviving function).
