tesla bot walks slowly and performs everyday tasks

In August 2021, at the Tesla AI Day, Elon Musk first announced his work on a humanoid robot known as the Tesla Bot. Nearly a year later, at the Cyber Rodeo event in Texas, Musk discussed the robot again, this time referring to it as the Optimus Sub-Prime and emphasizing the high priority he had assigned to the project. He confidently stated that the robot would be ready for production by 2023.

Now in 2023, while the Tesla Bot is not quite production-ready, recent updates indicate significant progress. A new video showcases the robot walking with its installed chassis and successfully performing increasingly complex daily tasks without any assistance.

effective AI training using human-tracked movements

The video was presented by Elon Musk, during Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting event held on May 16, 2023, highlighting the progress of the Tesla Bot project. The footage reveals a production-ready chassis, showing the robots walking forward with improved stability compared to their initial reveal, albeit at a slow pace. The video also demonstrates the bots’ newfound capabilities of picking up items and identifying objects.

The video showcases significant advancements in the Tesla Bot project (find more here), covering several noteworthy updates. These updates include motor torque control, enhanced environmental perception and memorization, AI training using human-tracked movements, and improved object manipulation. Notably, the video featured a demonstration where a Tesla Bot successfully retrieved items from one container and transferred them to another, illustrating the AI training process derived from human demonstrations.
