influenced by the air filtration systems used in hospitals, clean rooms and the space industry, tesla motors developed a HEPA filtration system capable of stripping the outside air of pollen, bacteria and pollution before they enter the cabin. this systematic scrubbing of the air inside the cabin eliminates any trace of these particles. to ensure that it captured all gaseous pollutants and bacteria, tesla decided to take things a step further and test the system in a carefully monitored conditions with extreme levels of pollution.

in less than two minutes in ’bioweapon defense’ mode, the filtration system had scrubbed the air in ‘model X’ bringing extremely dangerous pollution levels so low that engineers removed their gas masks while still sitting inside a bubble of pollution. moreover, the car also began to clean the air outside by 40%, making this better for those around. even though the test happened to be done with a ‘model x’, the same would be true of the ‘model s’ now in production.

both the ‘model x’ and ‘model s’ come standard with the HEPA filtration system
