elon musk debuts tesla's model 3 with a range of 346 km on a single charge

elon musk has debuted tesla’s new line of affordable cars that combines real world range, performance, safety and spaciousness. the ‘model 3’ is the most cost-conscious car they’ve built so far, achieving a range of 346 kilometers on a single charge while starting at only $35,000 USD before tax incentives.

UPDATE: tesla is live-streaming the first handovers of its highly-anticipated model 3 on july 28th, 2017 at 8:45PM PT on its website.

like the ‘model s’ and ‘model x’, the four door sedan will still go from zero to 100 km/h in under six seconds. with autopilot and supercharging as standard options, tesla is not cutting corners with their most popular features. elon musk also announced that tesla’s ‘gigafactory’ in nevada has commenced manufacturing lithium-ion batteries, which means deliveries of the ‘model 3’ will begin late 2017.

  • Nice! ..it’s particularly nice to see Musk whip up on those traditional blowhards in Detroit with their histories of crap product and mismanagement. GM should have been allowed to expire.

My only criticism of this new model is the nose looks like a silicone-injected upper lip of a reality show starlet. ..rest of the lines are worth owing. Too bad the line is so long.

  • That nose looks like a smoothed over air-intake – a left-over from another technology.

  • The ending of a piece on Quartz.

“Musk polarizes opinion—is he a grounded entrepreneur? A conman? Perhaps an unhinged nut? But much of the sniping has fallen away as he has produced much-admired electric cars.

Still, the jury remained out until this week’s unveiling of the Tesla Model 3, Musk’s make-or-break, $35,000 model. Musk said it would bring electrics to the masses; detractors said neither the technology nor the market was there yet.

But now the market has spoken. In less than 24 hours, about 200,000 motorists around the world plonked down $1,000 each to reserve a Model 3, sight unseen, at least 18 months and possibly three years before delivery. If completed, those orders will be worth over $8 billion. True, those deposits are refundable; but in effect, Musk has made every Tesla customer a venture capitalist, a triumph that is partly technological, but partly one of extraordinary marketing. Even Jobs might have been jealous.—Steve LeVine”

    JimCan says:
  • That nose! Get rid of that hideous nose please, just that. I haven’t seen any photos of the final version of the interiors yet.
