tesla has opened a massive next-generation electric vehicle charging station in las vegas after launching the new generation of its EV charging infrastructure months ago. the station makes use of the new brand-new V3 charging platform as well as solar power and batteries to help reduce the need for grid-based electricity.

the station includes 24 charging stalls, as well as 15 additional level-two tesla wall connectors for owners who are parking their vehicles for longer amounts of time, according to electrek. tesla says that las vegas has on average been hosting over 6,500 supercharging sessions per month, but with the new site being online, will be able to serve an additional 1,500 vehicles per day.

the V3 stations have a maximum power output of 250 KW or 1,000 miles per hour and are able to replenish up to 180 miles worth of range in 15 minutes. this is made possible in part by a switch to new liquid-cooled charge cables. tesla has also installed 15 level 2 wall chargers, for those tesla owners who aren’t in as much of a hurry.

with the launch of the supercharger v3, elon musk is fulfilling a 3-year-old promise to deploy more sites with solar and energy storage. the station is built in property owned by caesars entertainment, who tesla is working with to support their initiative to reduce its carbon emissions by 30% by 2025. along with the additional customers the station will serve, the goal is to make las vegas an overall friendlier destination for electric vehicle owners.
