with the first battery swapping stations opening later this year along the los angeles – san francisco corridor, tesla motors unveiled their battery swap-out system to the public for the model S electric vehicle. the demonstration highlights how a tesla service station can accomplish two battery swaps in the same amount of time it takes to fill a tank of gas at a regular pump. in the live demo, the californian auto manufacturer stages a race between an AUDI A8 at the fastest gas station in LA ( pumping 20 gallons per minute ). you can see action unfold in the video below.

  • In the film the commentator said the fastest pumping station in LA is 10 Gallons per minute not 20 Gallons. They also don’t mention how far the Audi can travel between fills compared to the Tesla requiring battery changes. Still an interesting development, if they developed the system to allow competitors cars to use the station they may see a wider adoption of electric vehicles.

  • So every time you do a battery swap, does your clock reset?
