LightingOnDemand has successfully completed the test drive of the tesla roadster prototype. unlike other electric vehicles, this one has no batteries and it’s powered completely by ambient electric fields, following tesla’s original wireless electricity concept.

for the tesla roadster to be wireless actioned, a tesla coil was used in the demonstration. to move, the vehicle receives the energy from the coil through a sort of metal umbrella which sends it to the electric motor. in order for the electricity to complete its circuit, the tricycle drags a chain behind it.

‘while we can’t realistically expect tesla’s idea of worldwide, free, wireless electricity to power our bicycles anytime soon, it is interesting to see his work proven out, even if its on a small scale like this,’ comments hackaday. ‘of course, it doesn’t take a research laboratory to start working with tesla coils.’
