Heatwave loses as Tiger Beer and fashion designer Izzy Du create the first summer puffer jacket that keeps the body temperature cool, lowering it by up to five degrees Celsius using cold beer cans. Viewers can try the wearable technology firsthand in Paris at Izzy Du’s pop-up on 127 rue de Turenne between October 1st and 3rd, 2023 and during Paris Fashion Week 2023. The fashionable summer puffer jacket has a network of tubes filled with water which is pumped around the wearer’s body.

These tubes make contact with key points where the arteries are closest to the skin. As soon as the wearer puts ice-cold cans in the beer pockets, the canisters transmit their temperature to the network of tubes to chill the water, thus cooling down the body temperature before sweat begins to form. Wearing a puffer jacket in the summer might attract attention from onlookers, but donning it is no longer just for fashion. In the case of Tiger Beer and Izzy Du, it means protecting the wearer’s health from suffering extreme heat.

Beer cooling system devised by whatever co.

Alongside Izzy Du and Tiger Beer, creative studio Whatever Co. chimes in to devise the beer-powered cooling system for the summer puffer jacket. The design team looked into the same technology that keeps astronauts cool in extreme temperatures and experimented with tube placements, materials, water tank designs, and electronic wiring to produce the cooling jacket.

‘We even had a trial run where the jacket became too cold to wear, and we had to tune it down to get it to the right temperature,’ says Masashi Kawamura, Chief Technology Officer of Whatever Co. The final result will debut at Paris Fashion Week 2023, which runs from September 25th to October 3rd, 2023. Izzy Du will be showcasing her current collection, which includes the TIGER summer puffer jacket.

The design catches attention with its almost neon orange hue. To capture Tiger Beer’s animal namesake, the hood draws inspiration from tiger ears, and its added fang details reference the pouncing animal. The subtle striped pattern helps create a fierce look, which may be expected from a tiger.

limited-edition wearable technology

The introduction of the summer puffer jacket marks Tiger Beer’s foray into wearable fashion technology. The limited-edition wearable technology, which will be available for the Summer and Spring collections, is set to debut in October to show viewers what other functions ice-cold beer cans have.

‘Working with Izzy Du, whose bold jacket fits any runway or fashion moment, and with never-before-seen, beer-powered technology, embodies what Tiger believes in. This sets the TIGER Summer Puffer jacket apart from anything else on the market,’ says Sean O’Donnell, Global Brand Director at Tiger Beer.

Speaking about the collaboration, Izzy Du says, ‘Making a puffer for the summer is an external expression of how refreshing and cool it feels to drink a Tiger. I started with the feeling of opening an ice-cold can of beer and playing with the colors of Tiger Beer before imbuing the aesthetics of the puffer with a new function.’
