torkel dohmers creates rideable art with moppe apparatus TD-MP1 electric moped

the amount of power in a motorcycle does not necessarily dictate how fun two-wheel riding can be, just remember the iconic honda SS50 for example. in similar style, the moppe apparatus TD-MP1 aims to popularize the use of small EVs, promoting enjoyable mobility without fossil fuels. designed by torkel dohmers, the moped is a modular lightweight electric alternative.

torkel dohmers designed the moppe apparatus TD-MP1 as if a piece of rideable art. the moped is immediately distinguishable by its low aero racing-style ergonomic form. the frame is designed with simplicity in mind as two structural side walls build the body, then componentry and interface stack in-between. the principle references mid-century modernist architecture, which would pair two walls together with sides of glass.

up front, a seemingly floating windshield gives the moped an immediate futuristic aesthetic. the body surface adorns a wood veneer pattern, flowing seamlessly into a long saddle seat bathed in a bright popping orange hue. below, the electric motor and battery is painted black, complementing the blacked-out rims of the wheels.

the lightweight two-wheeler is also unique thanks to its modular design, which aids its ease-of-use. it allows for custom functions to be added, such as a glove box and even a stand for mobile phones. a ‘parked’ iphone, for example, becomes the main interface for the vehicle.
