prefer designboom on googlegerman startup DroidDrive has unveiled the trailerduck, an electric trailer that combines a cargo bike with an eVan, resulting in a trailer that can handle a payload of up to 300 kg (661 lbs). emission-free and 100% electric, not only does it have a low ecological footprint, but also, thanks to exchangeable batteries, no downtime when charging. the electric drive also ensures that the trailerduck follows you effortlessly and conserves the towing vehicle’s battery.

last-mile logistics is a highly manual and costly process. at the same time, cities are confronted with a massive overload of roads. light electric vehicles (LEV) are an approach to implement sustainable urban and industrial last-mile logistics, but most LEVs do not provide sufficient payload. thanks to its innovative lightweight construction, the trailerduck can handle a payload of up to 300 kg and has a loading volume of up to 2 m3. at 1-meter-wide, the trailer can travel on the street, bike path, and even on the sidewalk.

equipped with sensors, the trailerduck features a follow-me technology that recognizes what the towing vehicle doing and then mimicking it. this includes braking, acceleration and keeping up with speed and turning. overall, the trailerduck allows bikes to haul cargo by matching its power and following the vehicle towing it.
trailerduck should be ready for series production at the end of 2022.
