UNIT 1's SOUNDSHIELD combines headphones and helmet for extreme sports

for anyone who has ever tried to take a call whilst wearing ski gloves and a helmet, UNIT 1 has come to your rescue. the group has set out to combine headphones and helmet into one seamless design, eliminating the problem of an audio kit or earbuds slamming uncomfortably against your ears when practicing sports. aptly named SOUNDSHIELD, UNIT 1’s latest product is an extreme sports helmet with integrated wireless headphones that easily dock in and out of the helmet for separate use. the device allows extreme athletes to tune into music and take calls without worrying about wires getting caught up or earphones falling out when moving.

the headphones use 40 mm speakers backed up with hand picked electrical components

SOUNDSHIELD — currently seeking funding on indiegogo — has just one simple button and volume dial control that is easy to use and works even through thick gloves to allow the wearer to pause, skip tracks and take calls whilst on the move. UNIT 1 has specially designed the interface, taking into consideration that you can’t see the headphones when using them, so instead employing a button-tap system for control of the device. the headphones can play up to 16 hours of music without any need to charge, and are able to stream via bluetooth.

the headphones easily detach from the helmet for everyday wearing

the interior of the helmet is made with EPS foam which adapts neatly to the shape of your head. SOUNDSHIELD also comprises a built-in ventilation system with two low-profile air inlets and six outlets to keep your head cool whilst you move.

juan garcia mansilla, founder and CEO for UNIT 1 explains that the group sets out to offer sports enthusiasts the perfect blend of design and functionality, with a product that fits both the everyday and the extreme.’ by creating headphones that easily pop in and out of the helmet, UNIT 1 wants to solve the problem of buying expensive kit just for a few months of the year.

the helmet combines wireless headphones with a safety helmet for extreme sports players

the helmet is aptly suited to skateboarders, rollerbladers, skiers and snowboarders alike
the headphones are secured inside the helmet using four anchor points, to stay in place in all situations
the single button and volume dial can be operated even with your thickest mittens

  • These are awesome. I like the removable \ modular design for the headphones, makes sense to be able to replace those without the whole helmet. Where could I get a setup? I’d love to try these up at Brighton this winter…
