high-performance and high-tech unite in this racing bicycle from urwahn bikes x schmolke. glimmering in its rich, golden aesthetic, copper-coated steel structure was made using 3D-printing, before being equipped by schmolke carbon. it distinguishes a fluid, comfortable geometry that delivers both bracket stiffness and lightweight-ness. the result reflects the color of winning as proven in its test ride on a velodrome by track bike world champion stefan bötticher.

together we have played out the potential of 3D-printing technology in our steel frame, and combined it with performance-oriented carbon parts,’ says product designer sebastian meinecke. manufactured entirely in germany, the 3D-printed steel frame only weighs 9kg. it is then masterfully coated in its full copper plating. the design realizes elastic suspension of the rear wheel to provide the rider with additional comfort without sacrificing bottom bracket stiffness. this is especially beneficial on longer rides and uneven surfaces.

to complete, the urwahn bikes x schmolke is equipped with many add-ons. these, like the handlebars and saddle unit, are made from carbon and trimmed for lightweight construction. its 45 mm carbon clincher guarantees aerodynamic directional stability and runs smoothly thanks to the tune hub mechanics. shifting is then wireless with a force etap AXS shifting group 1×12 compartment from SRAM.

  • The bike weighs 9 kilos, not the frame. Which is already quite heavy, even for a steel framed road bike. There are many extremely light parts equipped so I reckon the frame is much heavier than a traditionally built (lugged or welded) steel frame.
