the VAVA pet robot keeps your animals company whilst you're away

we’ve seen a lot of pet tech in recent weeks, from smart food bowls to electric skateboards for cats. but beyond dinnertime and playtime, a priority among inventors it seems, is the alleviation of anxiety in our four-legged friends. at the end of last year ford revealed a smart kennel, all-be-it a marketing strategy showing off the company’s noise-canceling technology. now VAVA wants its mobile pet cam to be dog’s new best friend. designed to keep users connected to their animals the little gadget-on-wheels wants to end pet boredom and separation anxiety by occupying cats and dogs when you can’t.

the wall-E looking robot moves around on wheels with treads for all surfaces and a mobile camera that can navigate tile, hardwood floors, and carpeting. using an associated mobile device app, the little guy can follow your pet from room to room. VAVA also claims an intelligent collision and drop-detection system makes bumping into obstacles and falling down stairs unlikely.

accessing the pet cam remotely lets owners speak to their pet using two-way audio and even dispense treats. meanwhile, a real-time bark alert feature sends notification alerts to your phone when your dog barks. wi-fi capability and an accompanying iOS/android app lets users see real-time video and audio with the option to record and share footage and stills using the a 1GB cloud storage system.

the gadget features a 1080p/30fps camera with infrared night vision and a 120-degree wide-angle lens. one charge of the device’s 5,000-mAh lithium-ion battery should reportedly be good for up to eight hours of play/video time, or up to seven days on standby.

VAVA has successfully launched other products including a dash cam and home cam via indiegogo and kickstarter. the company says it uses these campaigns to obtain suggestions and feedback from potential customers. the VAVA mobile pet cam is available for pre-order on the indiegogo campaign site for $149, a discount off the planned planned $299 retail price when it starts shipping.
