VocaEase, a portmanteau for ‘Vocabulary’ and ‘Vocal is easy,’ creates a smartphone ring stand and holder that doubles as a real-time AI language translator for calls, recordings, movies without subtitles, and more. Instead of developing an app, the technology team has created a device powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT to avoid lags, transcribe faster, and reduce ‘operating pressure’ on the phone. It has a dedicated smartphone app, and it takes a single press to switch it on.

VocaEase has also developed cross-app translation for its AI ring translator. In this way, users don’t need to copy and paste the text into the dedicated app to convert the language. It automatically changes it to the desired language through the built-in ‘textbox’ that pops up below the original language. The AI ring translator can transcribe audio in about 0.5 seconds, and the transcribed text supports up to 2 languages.

In total, VocaEase’s AI ring translator can identify and convert over 138 languages, including ‘different varieties of languages and minority languages spoken in the same region,’ says the technology team. The AI ring also targets those who need to hop on video calls but may not fluently speak the language of the other participants.

The technology team has created its own video-calling platform. Just like the other apps, users generate and share the link from this dedicated platform and send it to the participants. In this way, all the words spoken during the call are translated in real-time to the desired language chosen by the individual participants, and they can see them just below the transcribed text of their original language.

VocaEase’s voice recognition for missing movie subtitles

Voice recognition translation is what VocaEase calls the feature of its AI ring translator when it needs to convert the language of the audio coming from videos and movies. Users just need to set the languages they want to translate and change to and click on the ring. As soon as it starts to record the sound, the translation appears on the smartphone’s screen. This may be useful for videos and movies without available subtitles.

While users may need to switch their gaze between two screens, they might soon understand what the characters and narrators in the videos have to say. This may not be the case if they’re watching the videos or movies from their smartphones, but that may mean they need to open the app and the videos on a split screen.

Users can also use VocaEase’s AI ring translator during meetings and interviews, and so far, it can only translate up to two languages at once, and it has yet to be clear whether or not it can detect and name multiple speakers at once. Because the AI ring has its own app, VocaEase has also created a photo translation feature for when users need to explain what’s written in images in their desired language.

The AI ring translator works offline too, and in this case, even if the users don’t have a connection, the AI ring translator can still convert text languages. So far, VocaEase’s campaign says it’s priced at 89 USD, and users may need to subscribe to its in-app membership to fully use all the features for 9.90 USD per month and 119 USD per year. Shipping begins in December 2024.
