Diodra’s S3 and M8 as world’s lightest bamboo e-bikes

Bicycle startup Diodra describes S3 and M8 as the world’s lightest e-bikes with their bamboo frames, auto-shifting gears, and puncture-proof tires, which can offer riders bump-free cruising. Diodra says that the entirety of its bamboo e-bikes S3 and M8 only weighs around 15 kilos, including the intelligent motor.

Bamboo is used for the frame of the dubbed world’s lightest e-bikes to lend the ride a higher strength-to-weight ratio than steel or aluminum. The wooden material can make the e-bikes robust and stiff enough to have quality absorption features, resulting in bump-free rides.

Diodra applies a two-component coating system, with each frame having three layers of varnish, to its e-bikes S3 and M8 to protect the bamboo from water and extreme weather conditions. It means the riders can bring the dubbed world’s lightest bamboo e-bikes anytime and anywhere without worrying about them getting soaked or tarnished by the weather. Diodra also adds that they design the e-bikes S3 and M8 with an in-house belt-drive system for low maintenance and durability, allowing riders to maintain them only with minimal lubrication.

Hidden cables and motor for Diodra’s S3 and M8

The cables and motor are nestled within the bamboo frame of Diodra’s S3 and M8 to create a clean visual look from the outside. On top of that, the dubbed world’s lightest e-bikes can be customized depending on the needs of the rider, from the chain tension to the belt-drive compatibility and brake alignment.

The bamboo e-bikes also come with an intelligent motor that allows them to shift gears on their own, and using a dedicated app that Diodra is expected to set up, riders can choose their maximum riding speeds (25 kilometers per hour in EU and 32 kilometers per hour in the US).

For specs fans, the dubbed world’s lightest bamboo e-bike has an in-house, engineered battery that powers it up with 300 Wh or 4,000 cycles. S3 and M8 can then be fully charged in just around 3.5 hours, and riders can plug the e-bike into a charging port using the rear wheel axle. Diodra’s intelligent motor can also give the e-bike 63 miles or 100 kilometers of range and 250 watts of power. For M8, riders can switch between eight speeds, while they can choose their desired speed for S3 when they go on the dedicated app. As of publishing the story, Diodra’s bamboo e-bikes are up for reservations, with S3 priced at 2,199 EUR and M8 at 1,599 EUR.
