following the announcement of its ‘perso’ beauty personalization technology at CES 2020, l’oréal is back with a personal lip color maker that promises ‘an infinity of shades at your fingertips’. unveiled today (january 11 2021), the sleek AI-powered device is available under YSL’s beauty brand, which is owned by l’oréal. alongside the ‘rouge sur mesure’, the cosmetics giant also unveiled a sustainable haircare system at CES 2021 called ‘l’oréal water saver’.

the yves saint laurent rouge sur mesure powered by perso uses color cartridge sets from YSL’s velvet cream matte finish lipstick range. you can choose from four color families: reds, nudes, oranges, and pinks. each set comes with three different pods, allowing you to make endless bespoke shades with a single touch.

the device comes with an app and exclusive features

like any good modern gadget, this smart lipstick comes with an app and clever features. these include a ‘shade stylist’ to help you match or clash your look, and a ‘shade closet’ where you can save all your favorite creations and inspirations. by using your smartphone camera, you can also try on different lipsticks and pinpoint colors in real life that can then be turned into a personal lip shade.

once you’ve designed your shade, the bluetooth-connected device will do its magic and three squirts of creamy color will appear out from the top, which are then mixed together. you can then detach the top part and take your bespoke lipstick to-go in a classic black compact. the rouge sur mesure costs $299 USD and is available now for preorder on YSL’s website here. you can also sign up for the beta tester program to get an exclusive first look. a full product launch will follow by the end of 2021.
