‘value added’, by jan ziška and juraj rattaj, involves video projection onto this sculpture

‘value added’, an installation by slovakian designers ján ziška and juraj rattaj, involves the projection of abstracted photos and video unto a standing sculptural work, ‘sculpture as a parking place’. ziška and rattaj designed the piece for designboom’s ‘infiniti digital art competition‘, which asked participants to design innovative or interactive digital artworks under the theme of ‘inspired performance’, for installation in new centers that infiniti is opening throughout europe.

measuring 360 x 250 x 200 cm (11.8 x 8 x 6.6 feet), the 200-kilogram (440-pound) statue is composed of epoxy laminate, finished in pearl white. whether situated outside or within the showroom, in parking lots, or on the street, the work is intended as the site of video projection, wherein photographs and footage of real vehicles and their components is abstracted into a continually morphing, fluid animation, backed with an ambient soundtrack.

the designers elaborate: ‘the phenomenon of automobile as a part of our everyday life,is offering not just the utility function, but also a means of presentation of our lifestyle and our taste. in this world of fortune, where ‘everyone can afford to buy anything’, ‘sculpture as a parking place’ is becoming a ‘value added’: owners of cars can ‘upgrade’ their vehicle with [the projections] of this work of art.‘
