shoe horn by nendo for maruni wood industry materials: maple, steel, neodymium magnet

as the name suggests, shoe horns were first made by carving animal horns; in the project by japanese designer nendo, the shearing motion of the shoehorn pays homage to its origins.

the shoehorn can be removed with one hand; the stand is weighted for proper resistance. when you lift the top part of the cone, the shoehorn comes away with a conic section. the shoehorn and stand, connected by an embedded neodymium magnet, are carved from a single block of wood for complete continuity of the wood grain.
