14 story mural in paris by shepard fairey

new mural by shepard fairey (obey) all images copyright butterfly

shepard fairey has plastered upon the wall of a fourteen story building his most recent street art installation. the exterior of the building is decorated with red, black and white paint, applied by fairey and a team on a moveable platform, to reveal a close-perspective portrait of a woman and obey style flower. the piece has been put in place with the assistance of galerie itinerrance, butterfly, and mairie of 13th for the community art project entitled ‘street art 13’. in this collaborative effort, these organizations hope to breathe new creative life into the zone in allowing artists building sides as canvases for their bright artworks.

  • can’t wait to see what shepard ripped off next!

Obama was a mack daddy says:
  • Copied from this stock photo

    not a Fairey Fan says:
  • Wow…might be nice to credit the ORIGINAL artist of this piece, photographer Anna Bryukhanova!

    Credit where credit's due says:
  • Just another violation of other artists rights. nothing more. not an art.

    Anna Bryukhanova says:
  • where is the problem?! he took the foto as a basis for his art … without his work nobody would care about the foto at all! and btw he also altered the original set up

    nombre says:
  • Derivate of a stock photograph. Based on this I guess that means that means that people who put up billboards are artists too.

    Not impressed.

    saintcaffeine says:
  • People are so quick to complain. Who says he didn’t pay $10 bucks for the istockphoto image? I’d just rather he filled all 14 stories. Large scale public art, whether you like the artist or like to hate him, is good for any city.

    Gabe Ruane says:
  • What kind of artist is that copying other people work??! Totally not impressed!

    kim says:
  • This is a beautiful and haunting work of art The artist has made this part of the city more interesting and human Is the woman a resident from another country or is she a folk heroine? He has an entire body of well loved work ,now extended to huge scale I hope we will see much more How pendantic and small minded not to see that What have you done to improve your city, smug critics?

    royarch says:
  • This is derivative “art” from another artist. Original Artist should be mentioned here:

    artist: shepard fairey obey
Based on an original work: ……. Copyright Holder here!!!
    direction: mahmoud belakhel
image: matthew soudet – roman paget
    montage – calibration: ingrid zeller
location: 93 av jeanne d’arc 13th, paris, france
    music: moby, ‘radion station’
    dates: june 2012

    That’s all.

    Glenn says:
  • Firstly, critics, what have you done to help your communities in terms of art? Alright, this glaring issue along with your pointed fingers aside, what is the problem with someone working with a stock photo? Initially, the image isn\’t that great, but reinterpreted as a stencil it is much more powerful. Second, shepard may jack a lot of peoples designs or rough images, but what he does is something that ultimately integrates the work into mainstream society in a more tangible and large-scale way. And that is a beautiful thing.

    Brian says:
  • wow. this is really impressive! i only wish it covered the entire building!!

    fatima says:
  • it´s not a real art, it´s copy from original image !

    Ariadna de Raadt says:
  • Brian are you telling me that this mural is done out of charity? rofl!
I\’m 99% certain he got some big $ for this project!

(Almost) nothing wrong with working with a stock photo, just don\’t claim the credits..

    cj says:
  • Did the photographer credit the model?

    stevyweevy says:
  • such a shame ..
