joshua kirsch: concentricity interactive light series
concentricity is an interactive light sculpture series by joshua
kirsch. consisting of three
individual pieces - concentricity 96, 80, 16 - each one presents an
illuminated white handle
in which a viewer is invited to move in any
desired direction. reed switches located within
the sculpture's circuitry sense the
movements of a magnet that is contained in each of the
sculpture's
handles, translating this information into the form of LED light.

concentricity 96 utilizes 96 white LEDs whose light floods through the sculpture's
honeycomb-like aluminum frame, casting a range of shapes and patterns on the wall.

80 blue/white LED lights make-up concentricity 80, which are visible from both sides
of the sculpture. the front side of the aluminum disk is flat, containing circles in which the
LED lights are illuminated. the back of the sculpture displays the LED on five concentrically
arranged circles.

this third piece of the series, concentricity 16, spans the height of a room from floor to ceiling
and can be adjusted according to varying room heights. here, green/white LEDs are used
in an arrangement which are visible from both the back and front of the sculpture.

switch LED light bulbs
featuring liquid cooling technology, the bulbs are available in 100, 75, 60 and 40 watt equivalents to offer the light quality of incandescents, but each one lasts 25 times as long and is 80% more energy efficient.
ledo: bulled LED lightbulbs
multiple LED units are combined into a single bulb, mimicking the size and color quality of incandescents while offering increased energy efficiency.
