neo design: one togo

neo design: one togo

'one togo' by neo design

german designer benjamin heirich of neo design has created 'one togo:'
designed for children and teenagers in togo, this prosthesis has a durable construction
devised for longevity and can be produced for under 30 euro.

'one togo' can be adjusted by 8cm on both the lower leg and thigh, allowing it to expand with the growing user.
the whole system is also modular so parts can be easily repaired or replaced in case it becomes damaged or too small.

made of metal and wood, materials for the prosthesic limb can be easily sourced and constructed in a workshop
based in togo. additionally, the foot shape is symmetrical to keep the production and storage costs low,
and the sole of the foot reuses an old bicycle tire for grip and cushioning.

Nicely done but not at all functional, sorry! The knee joint isn't going to last one day of walking if it's built like this. It's not stable enough if only supported on one side, it's going to bend very quickly. Also the extension stop is not going to last long. The foot completely made of wood is simply too stiff. The forefoot should be flexible otherwise the amputee has a really hard time to walk. And then you should do some more research regarding statics and alignment of the prosthetic leg. I'm a prosthetist, I know what I'm talking about, this isn't going to work at all.....

If everybody would put more creativity in projects like this ... where we would be now ... who needs 10000000 concept car ... who needs 10000000001 chairs. this is the right way dont mind about persons like jonas who can only make thinks bad. i realy like this one go ahead.

I was saying that it was nicely done and I was pointing out the details that would not work on this design concept. That's valuable feedback from a prosthetist who worked for 17 years in this field, also in developing countries, with very similarly designed devices.

It's not about talking bad about other peoples creations.
Jonas   07.12.11
