pidgin

pidgin by dole sandrine from morocco

designer's own words:

“Pidgin” is a range of ceramics tableware inviting world gourmets to have a meal. Indeed, its contemporary design gathers different cultural archetypes: from the round African water-pot, passing by the flared Asian bowl, to the flat Westerner dish.

The range includes five containers in two dimensions: cup, mug, bowl, ramekin and saucer for individual use; jug, tureen, dish, mixing bowl and plate for collective use.
The contrast between the rough biscuit and the smooth, coloured and shiny glaze indicates the specificities of shapes, functions and uses of each component. Hands hold the biscuit while lips feel the glaze.
On the contrary, piling the range underlines its complementarity.

The range is to be produced through a craft process : turning on the wheel with help of templates (or possibly moulding), glaze diping with a wax application to preserve the biscuit/glaze junction if necessary. And so was it prototyped.
