researchers at bournemouth university in the uk and boredomresearch.net have taken the expression ‘snail mail’ literally. snails austin, muriel and cecil have been fitted with a radio frequency chip that is tiny enough to fit in their shells. individuals can send a message via the ‘real snail mail’ website and have it delivered whenever one of the snails comes into range with an electronic reader (this might take a few days). so far austin is leading the delivery service only taking 1.96 days.the project aims to encourage people to appreciate technology. ‘real snail mail’ is part of a slow art project that will be on display at siggraph computer graphics conference in los angeles from the 11- 15th august.
