sebastian errazuriz: metamorphosis

the entire bookshelf in use

chilean born, new york-based designer and artist sebastian errazuriz's 'metamorphosis' bookshelf
is hand carved from baltic birch plywood. it was created for the exhibition of his furniture work 'beautiful premonitions'
which opens april 28th, 2011 at the cristina grajales gallery in new york. originally based on the thick ivy that he used
as natural shelves for his childhood garden toys, errazuriz collaborated with woodworkers from the horm
furniture company to develop the piece entirely in italy.

Beautiful, but a major dust collector. Also, not terribly child or animal friendly. Which is a shame as they are like something out of a childhood story.

It is absolutely gorgeous!!!

Well Done!!!

Beautiful woodworking.
Love the process sketches, the larger room covering version would be an impressive environment.
@Leslie This type of furniture doesn't strike me as something that would be in an environment with children or small animals running about.

This is an amazing piece of art. So full of enriching beauty, birthing livid life into every book. Continue making more art, your blessed with much of it.
Shane   04.09.11
Only artistic. Zero utility. With pointed edges, it can hurt not only children but adults too.
Ashish   04.10.11
Magnificent!!! i like it very much
Tamara   04.10.11
Gorgeous!! Like something from a fairy tale!

Beautiful. As others have said, not very practical. But art is not about practicality. To have something like this, and the space to display is properly, would be to make a statement, about what you like and what you are. I wish I could make that statement.
