french designers ronan and erwan bouroullec present 'textile field' a collaborative project with danish textile company kvadrat
on the occasion of london design week 2011.
installed at the victoria & albert museum, the duo was asked to intervene within any of the institution's spaces for the project.
the result is a 30 meter long, 8 meter wide installation which takes over the 240 meter square floor of the raphael cartoons gallery.
'our intention is to propose a different, casual approach to freely experience what can be a quite intimidating environment,
such as a museum. we conceived an expansive, colored foam and textile piece with gentle inclinations to produce a sensual field
on which to comfortably lounge while meditating on the surrounding gallery. everyone can immerse within this temporary installation,
for a minute, an hour or more. that is the idea. no efforts, no apprehension, just contemplation.' - ronan + erwan bouroullec

why isn't there a yawn emoticon anyway?
I am going to the V&A on Monday specifically to experience this installation and also to hear the boys explain it for themselves. I have a funny feeling I will not be underwhelmed as your good selves have been.
Different ways of contemplating art are few and far between in galleries, so any new way of encouraging viewers to stay a while and savour a particular piece of art or exhibit can only be a good thing.
