MARC FORNES / THE VERYMANY introduces ‘THE ORB’

MARC FORNES / THEVERYMANY has created a striking installation, The Orb, at Google’s Charleston East Campus (see designboom’s previous coverage here). This pavilion features a lightweight structure of swirling organic forms, providing visitors with an immersive experience of light and architecture. Designed as an ‘anchoring artwork,’ The Orb complements the main campus building by offering a serene space for distraction, contemplation, and social interaction amid the dynamic environment of the tech giant’s headquarters.

A new landmark for Google’s Charleston East Campus

Against the grand backdrop of the new Charleston East building, the Orb pavilion by MARC FORNES / THEVERYMANY (find more here) emerges as a complementary structure. Developed through computational protocols and infused with a spirit of play, the Orb reflects the innovative ethos that defines the work at Google (find more here). Crafted from ultra-thin aluminum, this intricate system of many parts is an iconic landmark and a point of engagement for Google employees and the Mountain View community.

Positioned at the prominent intersection where the Google campus meets public space, the Orb establishes an inspiring outdoor room. This expressive pavilion is designed to draw curiosity and foster various interactions, both day and night. It invites the public and employees to explore and engage, creating a dynamic space for connection and inspiration.
