japan-based torafu architects have created ‘gulliver table’ across the lawn of tokyo midtown
as part of an exhibition for design touch 2011 at design tide tokyo. the 50 meter (164 feet)
structure is an expanded picnic table. depending on where it is approached,
the function of the form changes. on one end, it is a table and bench, but as it grows,
the relationship between the user and object evolves through a morphed sense of scale.
as the table top surface stretches overhead, it becomes a shelter, playground and sanctuary.
