a kindergarten of ‘flying dreams’

adding to its extensive collection of playful proposals, dika design introduces the ‘paper airplane’ kindergarten taking shape as a colorful structure with a unique volumetry in yunnan, china. the free-form structure incorporates a wide range of bright tones and distinctive shapes, as well as a large red propeller at its top. the concept derives from the idea of ‘flying dreams’, encouraging young students to develop their imagination and creativity.

a colorful landmark for the urban landscape of yunnan 

the kindergarten’s cheerful design and artistic imprint reflect the teaching mission of the school accurately. the structure takes shape as a large white volume with a wide range of integrated shapes painted in bold tones. red arches embrace the main entrance of the kindergarten welcoming the children inside, thick blue stripes allocate the balcony areas where the kids can connect with the natural surroundings, while yellow squares and red lines envelop the protruded windows, where the young students can observe the outside setting and daydream. last but not least, the helix at the top of the building can’t help but remind of the project’s name ‘paper airplane’, as well as the main design concept of ‘flying dreams’. 

with its unique shape, the building kindergarten emerges as an iconic building, becoming a landmark for the urban landscape of the area. ‘we not only regard kindergartens as children’s schools but as buildings with meaning,’ the architects share. ‘at the same time, schools are also part of the city as a whole.’ they add.
