located in ankara, turkey, ‘OIZ office’ by yazgan design architecture integrates nature into the work environment with a series of green open courtyards. these inner gardens ensure natural light and ventilation reaches every corner within the building, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. working spaces are arranged in programmatic clusters, while each office table is complete with an inner garden on one edge.all images by ivabox, drawings courtesy of yazgan design architecture
yazgan design architecture has designed the office building for the aerospace specialized organized industrial zone’s administrative personnel and board of directors, in ankara, turkey. all office spaces are arranged in programmatic clusters, integrated with inner gardens. while the gardens separate the offices physically in the horizontal dimension, visual continuity is maintained through transparency.
by integrating nature into the design, the architects have achieved a dynamic interior where the effect of the seasonal changes can be observed in many different ways. at wintertime, the illumination of the snow reflects into the office spaces, while the ever-changing shadows of the trees transform the interiors throughout the day. furthermore, the open courtyards enable natural ventilation within the building.
the building’s different clusters include a conference hall and meeting hall cluster, a cluster of offices for different departments, a VIP rooms cluster, and a cafeteria cluster. the depth of these clusters is utilized in such a way that the areas that do not require natural light, such as services and conference hall, are located either at the central core or inner edge in order not to hinder the relationship between the spaces and gardens.
a continuous slab unites the clusters underneath and creates a free-flowing interior plaza that accommodates a small cafe, seating areas, and the foyer of the conference hall. the structural system of the building has been solved in a design-oriented manner; the columns and beams that carry the roof are joined as frames so that they can be turned into urban furniture/seating benches serving the building users.
