from kiev to bali

Sirotov Architects unveils a proposal for a home in Bali, combining the tropical atmosphere of its context with the brutalist concrete style common among the studio’s native city of Kiev. The team aims to introduce a dwelling — entitled ‘mb3e’ — that is at once compact and ‘as isolated as possible.’ Working within these parameters, the architects envision a house with a footprint of only seventy-eight square meters. Alongside the built space is planned a furnished patio, complete with a swimming pool, barbecue area, outdoor shower, space for parking, and a fireplace.

The architects led by Igor Sirotov elaborate on the spirit of the ‘mb3e’ house for Bali: ‘We often use bare concrete in our projects, this is exactly what modern houses are made of, and this is the natural habitat of humans. We believe that this is a pleasant and cozy material for a person, this structure is pleasant to look at and touch.

The envisioned house for Indonesia’s sunny island of Bali is designed with an open-beam construction and a free facade. This structural concept, by which the proposal is most recognized, will be at once decoratively and technically functional. The team continues: ‘We believe that this is a beautiful element an no necessary to hide it. They connect the entire line of houses into a holistic picture and give beautiful shadows on the ground.
